Commonly used materials for these types of wire rods include low-carbon to high-carbon, stainless steel, and low alloys. Millennium Metals can offer steel solutions, including 1010, 1008, and 1035 steel wire rods. Chemical composition, size, and properties differ based on the final product’s applications.

As they are made of low-carbon steel, 1010 steel wire rods are used in wire drawing and manufacturing of metalware and mesh. 1010 is a somewhat low-strength carbon steel, but this strength can be increased by treatment of the material. Machinability is not as good as many other grades, though formability is high.

1008 is a specification for carbon steel that has been cold rolled. 1008 steel wire rod has excellent weldability and formability compared to hot-rolled steel, as well as brazeability. This type of steel is commonly used in low-stress applications, which include cold upset, extruded, and cold pressed parts and pieces. Our 1008 steel wire rods are versatile and can be drawn into what you may need fairly easily.

1035 carbon steel possesses decent strength and toughness, which is higher than that of low carbon. 1035 steel wire rod is commonly used for parts and components of medium strength, including nuts and bolts or parts that are upset or headed.
